Jean and Joe's Ramblings -
|I hope everyone had a wonderful time at the Florida Folk Festival…It hasn’t happened yet, as I write this, but next issue there should be a report. We are celebrating our 30th Anniversary as Friends of Florida Folk, and because of this and the fact that it is the 60th year for the Florida Folk Festival, we are both waiving fees for selling product this year at our booth…hopefully this will give the performers a break.
Jan & Jean have been traipsing to festivals nearly every weekend, often to Kojak’s in Palmetto on Tuesdays for Folk Nite, and to the weekly Wed nite jams in Sarasota area…we do have fun!!! Watch facebook for photos of it all on Jan Buncik’s page if you’re interested….and after the FFF we are heading for the Stan Rogers Festival in Canso Nova Scotia…33 hour drive… are we crazy or what? And I don’t do any of the driving on road trips!!!
Margaret Lewis reports that this newsletter goes to Tallahassee each month and is kept in the archives there. Many years ago Joe Hickerson requested a copy every month for the Library of Congress..after he retired, that ended for some reason.

I'm emailing to let you and Friends of Florida Folk know that the prestigious US-based International Songwriting Competition (ISC) has announced its 2011 winners. We are very excited to announce that the coveted ISC Grand Prize has been awarded to Auckland, New Zealand songwriter Kimbra for her infectious pop song "Cameo Lover." The Grand Prize is ISC's highest honor, and prizes include $25,000 US cash and over $25,000 US in merchandise and services.
The competition received over 16,000 entries from 112 countries, making 2011 the most competitive year ever. The winners were chosen by a prestigious panel of celebrity and industry judges including Tom Waits; Jeff Beck; Ozzy Osbourne; Robert Smith (The Cure); Tori Amos; McCoy Tyner; Kelly Clarkson; John Mayall; Monte Lipman (President, Universal Republic Records); and many others. More than $150,000 US in cash and prizes will be shared by the winners.
It is extremely important to ISC that the accomplishments of these outstanding songwriters be recognized, and we sincerely hope thatyou andFriends of Florida Folk will help us to accomplish this goal by promoting this press release and helping to spread the word about their international achievements.
